( Dynasty matriarch Marsha ‘Kay’ Robertson said her oldest son, Alan, was born out of wedlock, a year before she and Phil Robertson were legally married, and that because of this, Alan Robertson says, “Yeah, I would be the B[astard] in the family.”

Alan Robertson, who has been married to his wife Lisa for 29 years, is a Christian minister and he also now stars in the popular reality-TV show Duck Dynasty, with his other family members and relatives.

Kay Robertson, or Miss Kay, disclosed the details about her marriage and Alan’s out-of-wedlock birth in a special edition of US Weekly magazine, published on Monday, June 30.

Miss Kay reveals that in 1964 she “made a vow to God” and to Phil Robertson, but this was an informal ceremony, not a legal marriage.

“Well, this is the first time I’ve shared this, aside from giving my testimony [in church],” Miss Kay said. “When I made a vow to God and to [Phil], it was March 22, 1964.”

“It wasn’t legal,” she said. “That’s the truth. We didn’t do the legal papers until April 11, 1966, after Alan, my oldest, was born. Alan says, ‘Yeah, I would be the B[astard] in the family.”

Alan Robertson was born in 1965.

Miss Kay continued, “But I want to tell you something. My heart and my vow to God was true from the first day.”

The Robertson family is known for being devoutly Christian and they often end each show with a prayer said at the dinner table.  Miss Kay’s husband, Phil Robertson, sometimes preaches in the church they attend, White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, Louisiana.

Although Phil Robertson is often outspoken about his religious and moral views, and publicly condemns what the Bible describes as sinful, he also admits that he was, as a younger man, very sinful, engaging in a “sex, drugs and rock n’roll lifestyle.”

In describing some of those turbulent times, Miss Kay told Fox411 in May of this year, “When I first fell in love with Phil there were so many good characteristics about him and I knew he had a good heart. I saw the change in him when he ran around with people at college. He made the bad choices to run with those people. I can't totally blame them, but I always felt he was slowly going to the Devil.”

“I told my kids, ‘Your dad is a good man. He has a good heart but right now the he's letting the Devil control him and that's who we should hate - the Devil and not Phil. We'll pray and pray that the Devil will leave him but he has to make the choice to do that,’” she said.  “I knew that from the Bible, and eventually he did make the right choice. I think that's why my heart and my kids were easy to forgive too.”

Miss Kay continued, “When he became a Christian, Jase said, ‘Does that mean the Devil is going to leave my daddy?’ I said, ‘Yes, the Lord is living in him now, not the Devil. He's had 10 years to do a lot of bad things. It's going to take him time to grow. He doesn't know how to be good but if we just love him and help him he will,’ and that's basically the story of what happened.”

Phil and Miss Kay Robertson have four sons: Alan, Jase, Willie and Jep, and 14 grandchildren. Duck Dynasty is the most popular reality-TV show in cable history, with an average 10.5 million viewers per episode.  The show is broadcast on the A&E channel.
