(CNSNews.com) - White House aide Kelly Sadler, who mocked Sen. John McCain’s health, is no longer at the White House, though it is not clear whether she resigned or was fired.

“Kelly Sadler is no longer employed within the Executive Office of the President,” White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah announced in a statement Tuesday.

McCain was diagnosed last year with a rare form of brain cancer.

As CNSNews.com previously reported, Sadler joked last month that McCain’s opposition to then-CIA nominee Gina Haspel didn’t matter, because he was “dying anyway.” Haspel was eventually confirmed to lead the CIA despite McCain’s opposition.

Sadler’s remarks touched off a firestorm of controversy with some calling for her firing.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said at the time that if Sadler worked for him, she would have been fired.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said that Sadler’s comments do not prevent her from getting other jobs within the administration.

“Kelly Sadler has been told there are administration jobs that fit with her skill set and her experience,” Conway told CNN Wednesday.
