(CNSNews.com) - The White House said Tuesday that President Donald Trump will make an announcement "this week" on whether he has recordings of his conversation with former FBI Director James Comey.

"The president has said that he will make an announcement on this. I expect it this week, and so when he’s ready to make that announcement we’ll let you know," White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said.

As CNSNews.com previously reported, Trump hinted that there may be recordings of his conversations with Comey. During a joint press conference with the president of Romania on June 9, he said he would tell reporters whether the recordings exist "over a very short period of time."

"I'm not hinting. I'll tell you about it over a very short period of time," Trump said at the time.

When asked Tuesday whether President Donald Trump believes that Russia interfered in the presidential elections,  Spicer said Tuesday that he hadn't talked to the president about it.

"I have not sat down and talked to him about that specific thing. Obviously we've been dealing with a lot of other issues today. I'd be glad to touch base," Spicer said.

"Generally speaking, in his conversation about Russian interference in our elections, there’s 16 intelligence agencies that say that they did.  The former FBI director said that without a doubt, the Russians --" the reporter said.

"I understand. I've seen the reports," Spicer said.

"Does the president share those views?" the reporter asked.

"I have not sat down and asked him about his specific reaction to them, so I'd be glad to touch base and get back to you," Spicer responded.
