(CNSNews.com) – President Donald Trump on Tuesday compared the impeachment process to a lynching, complaining that there is no due process or fairness.
“So some day, if a Democrat becomes President and the Republicans win the House, even by a tiny margin, they can impeach the President, without due process or fairness or any legal rights. All Republicans must remember what they are witnessing here - a lynching. But we will WIN!” he tweeted.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) agreed with Trump’s characterization, saying, “Yeah, this is a lynching in every sense. It is un-American. I've never seen a situation in my lifetime as a lawyer where somebody is accused of a major misconduct, who cannot confront the accuser, call witnesses on their behalf and have the discussion in the light of day so the public can judge.
“If this continues in the House, it’s a complete sham, and I'll do everything I can to make sure it doesn't live very long in the Senate,” Graham told reporters on Capitol Hill.
“The president is frustrated. If you have to go through the three years the president had to live through and now this ridiculous charade, you can understand why the president is frustrated,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told reporters on Capitol Hill.
Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) disagreed with the use of the term “lynching.” However, he compared the impeachment process to a “death row trial.”
“The impeachment process is the closest thing of a political death row trial. So I get his absolute rejection of the process. I wouldn't use the word lynching,” Scott told reporters on Capitol Hill.
