(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) called out President Donald Trump on Saturday during his speech at the Netroots Nation annual conference in New Orleans, La., for criticizing NBA star LeBron James’s interview with CNN’s Don Lemon.

“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!” Trump tweeted on Friday.

“Someone else is in Ohio right now… flying in a plane, landing in Ohio for a special election that we have just outside of Columbus, and the president, before he got to Ohio, he thought it would be a good idea to continue his race-baiting that we’ve experienced for so long now against LeBron James,” Ryan said on Saturday.

“Now just two days ago, LeBron James announced that he was gonna donate $41 million to a school in Akron, Ohio, that was gonna make sure these kids got good food, that they got sneakers, that they got a bicycle so they could make their way through neighborhoods in case they were in trouble, to make sure their parents got a GED and training if they needed it. $41 million and that every kid that graduated from this school was gonna have their tuition paid for at the University of Akron, and the president called him dumb,” Ryan added.

“Who’s the real dummy? A man who puts kids in classrooms or one who puts kids in cages? #BeBest” Lemon tweeted on Saturday.

“Don Lemon, who was also caught getting called dumb, had the best tweet ever. He said, ‘Who’s dumb? The person who spends $41 million trying to build a school to put kids in or someone who has cages built to put kids in.’ I’m with LeBron James,” Ryan said.

Ryan was referring to the detention of illegal alien minors who illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

However, the use of cages to detain illegal minors was a practice which began under the Obama administration.

According to a June 19 Business Insider report, “several former Obama administration officials took to social media and news outlets last month to explain a gallery of years-old photos that showed immigrant children sleeping in shoddy conditions at a government-run holding facility in Arizona.”

“The images, which the Associated Press first published in 2014, resurfaced recently for reasons that remain unclear, and quickly prompted viral outrage on Twitter. One particularly disturbing image showed two children sleeping on mattresses on the floor inside what appeared to be a cage.

“A number of prominent liberals — and even a former Obama administration official — shared the photos, mistakenly believing they depicted the Trump administration's treatment of immigrant children who were forcibly separated from their parents.”
