( – Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards is reportedly set to step down as the head of the nation’s largest abortion provider after more than a decade at the helm.

Richards took over for her mother, the late Texas Gov. Ann Richards, in 2006.

“Cecile plans to discuss 2018 and the next steps for Planned Parenthood’s future at the upcoming board meeting,” the abortion provider said in a statement.

Although a formal announcement has yet to be made, pro-life groups are already reacting to the news:

Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins said, “Cecile Richard’s legacy is one of death and destruction for hundreds of thousands of preborn infants and pain, lasting harm, and regret for many hundreds of thousands of women.”

“She leaves broken lives in her wake. Her departure is evidence of the collapsing abortion industry, whose ugly reality was revealed in the horrific Center for Medical Progress undercover videos in which ghoulish Planned Parenthood workers and vendors gloated about the money they were making,” Hawkins said.

“Pregnancy is not a disease cured by abortion,” she said. “Yet Richards has deceived the American people about the harmful impacts of abortion and the ugly realities of the predatory industry that she leads. Thankfully their own reports show that Planned Parenthood is losing patients.”

“Momentum is on the side of life, as the Students for Life National Conference just illustrated. Last weekend, we trained almost three times as many students in one day than the billion-dollar Planned Parenthood trained in a year, according to their recent annual report,” Hawkins said.

“Richard bragged that Planned Parenthood started 50 new campus groups, but Students for Life started nearly 120 last year, and now has more than 1,200 student groups on campus in all 50 states. Planned Parenthood reports training 750 young activists from 11 cities while Students for Life trained nearly 11,000 students from across the country. The pro-life generation clearly has more energy, passion, and motivation to defund Planned Parenthood,” she said.

David Daleiden, founder of the Center for Medical Progress, said Richards “was the most devoted practitioner of Planned Parenthood’s ‘out of sight, out of mind,’ mantra to cover up their barbaric abortion business from the public.”

“After CMP’s revealing undercover videos of Planned Parenthood’s top abortion doctors and the damning findings of multiple Congressional probes, Richards’ departure shows that the old strategy is no longer working as Planned Parenthood faces federal criminal investigation for selling abortion baby hearts, lungs, livers, and brains,” Daleiden said in a statement.

“Planned Parenthood’s new leadership should commit to full transparency with the Department of Justice and with the public, and to ending this taxpayer-funded criminal abortion enterprise once and for all,” he said.

“Since Cecile Richards took over as President of Planned Parenthood in 2006, the organization now provides hundreds of thousands fewer services each year to hundreds of thousands fewer women. This includes more than 1.2 million fewer contraceptives and 69% fewer cancer screening and preventative services,” Americans United for Life CEO and President Catherine Glenn Foster said in a statement.

“While prenatal services have dropped 42% since 2006, abortions have gone up 11% - 4 million lives lost to the violence of abortion in the last 12 years at Planned Parenthood facilities,” she said.

Foster pointed at that “despite Planned Parenthood’s record of health and safety violations, pattern of enabling abuse, and demonstrated waste of government funding, the organization has received more than $5.6 billion in taxpayer dollars over the last twelve years, and pocketed more than $600 million in profit.

“It seems that America’s abortion giant, under Ms. Richards’ leadership, cares less about providing vital healthcare to women in need and more about lining its own pockets,” Foster added.

“While it may seem to be cause for celebration that Ms. Richards is leaving the organization that has come to be known more for cover-ups, agitation, and political cronyism than for genuine healthcare, the jury is still out as to who may replace her at the top of America’s biggest abortion chain,” she said.
