(CNSNews.com) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told reporters at her Thursday press briefing that “the president knows better than any of us” the threat that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) poses to the United States and the world.

“The president has engaged with more than 65 other countries to defeat ISIS. The president knows better than any of us the threat that they pose to the security of the world and to the American people,” Pelosi said. “I have confidence in the president’s take on what is out there.”

“Last week, President Obama said ISIS was contained. Was he right when he said that?” a reporter asked Pelosi, referencing the president’s Nov. 12th remarks that “We have contained” ISIS.

“We are prepared to defeat ISIS by any definition,” Pelosi replied.

“The president has engaged with more than 65 other countries to defeat ISIS. The president knows better than any of us the threat that they pose to the security of the world and to the American people,” Pelosi emphasized.

“I have confidence in the president’s take on what is out there,” she concluded.

Many, including top Democratic lawmakers, have criticized the president’s remarks since the Nov. 13th attacks in Paris, which have been attributed to ISIS, also known as ISIL (the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant).

“ISIL is not contained. ISIL is expanding,” Sen.  Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told MSNBC on Monday.

Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also referenced Obama’s remarks in the Democratic debate Saturday evening.

“We have to look at ISIS as the leading threat of an international terror network,” Clinton said. “It cannot be contained, it must be defeated.”
