(—During a White House press conference between President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, the Italian PM stressed that Trump is “a great negotiator.”

Following remarks made by Trump about how European countries must pay their fair share in supporting the NATO military alliance, Prime Minister Conte said, “May I add something? I’m saying that, as a person who has great, huge experience as a lawyer, you have a president who is a strong supporter and advocate of the interests of the American people and the American country.”

“He’s a great negotiator,” said Conte at the July 26 press conference.

Conte also stated that both his and President Trump’s administration “represent change.” Both of us “were chosen by citizens in order to change the status quo and to improve their life conditions,” said Conte.

On the topic of the G7 economic conference and NATO, Conte expressed his strong support for  Trump and his policies, referring to both meetings as “very fruitful exchanges.”

Conte also agreed that it was necessary to fix the disproportionate spending of countries in NATO, saying that “these are absolutely reasonable positions and stances” advocated by President Trump.
