(CNSNews.com) – At a press conference on Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that at his meeting in Helsinki with Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Donald J. Trump gave Putin “a pat on the back” for undermining America’s elections.
At the U.S. Capitol on July 17, CNSNews.com asked Senator Schumer, “Obama’s CIA Director John Brennan said that President Trump’s press conference in Helsinki ‘rises to and exceeds the threshold of high crimes and misdemeanors’ and was ‘nothing short of treasonous.’ Do you agree with Brennan that Trump’s actions were treasonous?”
Schumer did not directly answer the question but said, “President Trump undercut our intelligence, elevated a brutal dictator who’s taking advantage of the United States, and maybe most importantly, refused to confront President Putin -- worse, sort of gave him a pat on the back for undermining our elections.”
“That is just disgraceful,” said Schumer. “That’s the way I choose to characterize it. Thank you, everybody.”
On Monday, Brennan, the CIA director under President Obama, tweeted, “Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of ‘high crimes & misdemeanors.’ It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Republican Patriots: Where are you???”
