Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.)

( -- When asked whether the United States’s current trade deficit with Communist China is a problem for the United States, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) did not answer directly but said China itself is “the greatest danger to the future of the American economy.”

At the U.S. Capitol on July 11, asked Senator Schumer, “The U.S. currently is running a record trade deficit with China -- $152 billion -- in the first five months of this year. Is that a problem for the United States?”

Schumer said, “We ought to be uniting all of our allies to focus on China, which causes us the greatest job loss and the greatest danger to the future of the American economy.”

He added, “China is a big problem for the United States. China is rapacious. They don’t play fair. We have to do stuff on China.”

When asked what America could do, Schumer said, “The president has not directed everything at China but he’s gone willy nilly and made the whole world our enemy.”
