(CNSNews.com)-  Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) says, “there are meaningful things we can do to preserve life and we got to do it. I’m on the side of Moms Rising, I believe we can ban these handguns.”

Ellison made the comments last week during an appearance on the Breaking Through program on We Act Radio, where he was discussing legislative options on gun control.

“The bottom line is there are meaningful things we can do to preserve life and we got to do it. I’m on the side of Moms Rising, I believe we can ban these handguns,” Ellison said.

“No-fly no-buy, universal background checks – fine. As long as no-fly no-buy has the due process. The bottom line is the status quo cannot be allowed to prevail.”

Ellison expressed support for banning what he considers “assault weapons” and “high capacity clips.”

“The fact is it’s just too easy to get these weapons and they’re dangerous and we have got to get them off our streets and it’s the only thing that makes sense - nobody is trying to ban all guns.”

“Look, there’s plenty of guns in Canada, but they don’t kill each other, like 10-thousand a year with handguns,” Ellison said.
