( - Texas Republican Rep. John Carter says in order to have a proper legal immigration system, a “wall in certain places is absolutely essential.”

“Just take the Texas border alone. 1,200 miles, of a lot of wild territory on the Mexican border, you can't cover it all. The wall in certain places is absolutely essential,” Carter told at the Republican National Convention Monday.

“Where the great population centers are on the border, 100 yards in - you can't distinguish those who just came across the river from others. You have to be able to have a place to stop them and funnel them to a place where we can do legal immigration and do it right,” Carter said.
