(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) wants the House to create a select committee to investigate “the unjustified use of lethal and excessive force by police officers against African-Americans.”

Earlier this month Rep. Rush introduced a resolution that would create a select panel similar to the one reviewing the attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi in 2012.

“This past year alone we have seen 7 different incidents of the unjustified use of lethal and excessive force by police officers against African- Americans,” the resolution says.

“It is the will of the Congress that a select committee be formed to investigate these patterns of excessive use of force in communities of color.”

The resolution continues, “There is hereby established in the House of Representatives the Select Committee on Excessive Use of Police Force.”

9 other representatives from the Congressional Black Caucus have co-sponsored the measure.
