(CNSNews.com) -Three Democrats in the United States Senate--Joe Donnelly (Ind.), Heidi Heitcamp (N.D.) and Joe Manchin (W.V.)--broke ranks with their party this afternoon to join with Republicans in voting to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

The final vote was was 54-45. (See the roster of the full roll call below).

One Republican senator, Johnny Isakson (Ga.), did not vote because, as his office explained in a statement, he was "in Georgia today recovering from two back surgeries."

Isakson made it clear that he supported Gorsuch and would have voted for him had he been in Washington today.

“Judge Gorsuch’s judicial temperament and his ironclad commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law make him an excellent addition to our nation’s highest court,” Isakson said. “I’m so proud to have someone like Judge Gorsuch who will serve on the Supreme Court with wisdom and distinction, continuing the fine legacy of the man whom he will replace, the late Justice Antonin Scalia.”
