(CNSNews.com) - Sixty-nine percent of Americans believe sex between an unmarried man and woman is “morally acceptable,” according to a recent Gallup poll.

In addition, the survey found only 28 percent consider it “morally wrong,”

Gallup asked, “Next, I'm going to read you a list of issues. Regardless of whether or not you think it should be legal, for each one, please tell me whether you personally believe that in general it is morally acceptable or morally wrong?”

The poll also found 67 percent of Americans believe gay or lesbian relations is “morally acceptable,” compared to just 30 percent who consider it to be “morally wrong.”

Further, the poll found that 65 percent of Americans believe having a baby outside of marriage is “morally acceptable,” while only 32 percent consider it “morally wrong.”

Gallup’s analysis of these issues goes back to 2001. According to Gallup, on most of these issues, “Americans have adopted more permissive views over time.”

Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted May 1-10, 2018, with a random sample of 1,024 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points.
