(CNSNews.com)- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calf.) spoke on Monday at the University of California at Berkeley in a conversation with former Sen. Barbara Boxer (D.-Calif.) and during that conversation asserted that she had never “intended to run for Congress.”
“I never intended to run for Congress and I certainly never intended to run for leadership,” Pelosi said. “But, when the opportunity came, I was ready. So, I was very policy and legislative oriented. So, I knew my brief there as speaker.”
Pelosi went on to say that she had been deemed a hero for various moments when she mocked President Donald Trump.
“You work so hard. You pass the Affordable Care Act. You pass things—all these bills,” said Pelosi. “You tear up a speech, you’re a hero. You give him one of these [clapping her hands], you’re a hero.”
Boxer referred to various actions Pelosi took in dealing with Trump as “iconic moments.”
“I love those moments, those iconic moments,” said Boxer.
Here is a transcript of part of the conversation between Boxer and Pelosi:
Barbara Boxer: “Remember the time when she was sitting behind the guy with the orangish hair and she took his speech and she went woooom like that? [Acts like she is tearing a printed speech in half.] Wooo! And she didn’t have to say one word, not one word.”
Nancy Pelosi: “Well, let me just say on that score. Here you are—I never intended to run for Congress and I certainly never intended to run for leadership. But, when the opportunity came, I was ready. So, I was very policy and legislative oriented. So, I knew my brief there as speaker. You work so hard. You pass the Affordable Care Act. You pass things—all these bills. You tear up a speech, you’re a hero. You give him one of these [clapping her hands], you’re a hero. You point at him—in that picture when I’m pointing to him, in that picture I’m saying: With you Mr. President, all roads lead to Putin. That’s what that picture is about. That’s why I said: I’m leaving this meeting, because with you all roads lead to Putin. Oh, my God. And I think, what about all the legislation. But, anyway.”
Boxer: “I love those moments, those iconic moments.”
