Identity Politics and Participation Trophies

Last week ,California Senator Kamala Harris made the announcement that we all knew was coming-- she was ending her presidential campaign.

Earlier this year, when she kicked off her campaign, she was met with cheering crowds and enthusiasm, as she regurgitated bland talking points. As time progressed, it became more and more clear that Senator Harris was, as they say in Texas, “all hat and no cattle.”

Her display during the Brett Kavanaugh judicial inquisition was appalling, just more bloviating. However, after the first Democrat [Socialist] party presidential debate, she was the talk of the town. She came out and took over the stage, not a very strenuous task. She took on the presumed frontrunner, former Vice President Joe Biden, and gave her little-girl-in-California bus segregation story.

That was it; Kamala Harris became that which the left loves to embrace, a victim. As well, she also evidenced something even greater that the progressive socialist left in America seeks out. Senator Kamala Harris was female and Black, she checked off identity politics boxes.

Early on, I made a prediction that Kamala Harris was exactly what the left was looking for in their next presidential candidate. They had won with the Black leftist fella. They had lost with the white female. So, as reasonable deduction would have it, the left figured a Black female would give them a winning formula, especially one that was a Senator from California.

Then something happened on the road to being christened. Her name was Tulsi Gabbard. Congresswoman Gabbard of Hawaii got to be on stage with Kamala Harris for the second Democrat debate and destroyed Senator Harris. And yes, it was a sin for which the left, the Democrat party, has not forgiven the now-described agent of Russia.

And how interesting, Gabbard is also a woman of color, US Army veteran, and articulate, but she was not the identity politic chosen one. What Tulsi Gabbard did was to expose the flaws and weaknesses of Kamala Harris, deficiencies she never overcame. As a matter of fact, things descended into the depths of Hades so fast for Harris that she was relegated to such folly as requesting Twitter to suspend President Trump’s account and offering to extend the school day another three hours. The latter, certainly not a winning policy proposal.

But what was the left’s response to Sen. Kamala Harris ending her presidential campaign? Yep, you got it, it’s racist and sexist. Uh, the attacks on Tulsi Gabbard were not described that way.

Yes, Kamala Harris, regardless of her displayed incompetence, is a victim: She was not successful because of her being a Black female. She did not receive massive campaign contributions because of her gender, maybe she should choose from one of the other 60 the left has created. And her skin color held her back, not her lack of character and policy expertise. No, it all comes down to the issue of identity politics.

And now, another failing presidential candidate, Sen. Cory “Spartacus” Booker is asserting that excuse, on Sen. Harris’ behalf, or perhaps setting it up for his own use? He is now, along with other leftists, complaining about how there are only whites on the Democrat [Socialist] party debate stage. And they are supposedly the party of diversity? Nope, they are just the party of identity politics.

I must ponder something. If Sen. Harris is a victim of racism and sexism, what enabled her to become Attorney General of California and a U.S. Senator? The answer is simple. One of the major results of the concept of identity politics by the left is the awarding of their favorite trinket, participation trophies.

We have been down this road before, and perhaps there are those who wish not to travel that path again. Out of Chicago came a non-descript fella who made a thunderous entrance at the 2004 Democrat National convention when he was the keynote speaker. He was an unaccomplished community organizer, and adjunct “constitutional professor,” who was once the President of the Harvard Law Review, yet never wrote an article. However, he fulfilled the identity politic role of the progressive socialist left. This same individual was given several participation trophies, a U.S. Senate seat, the presidency of these United States of America, and even a Noble Peace Prize.

Throughout all of this, we all knew there was a lack of competence, and it showed on many occasions, but it made us feel good to give him these trophies.

And now, Senator Kamala Harris is throwing the immature temper tantrum, just like a kid that has been given everything, for doing nothing, because she has been conditioned to being rewarded. As well, the game is being played by one Midwest city mayor, Pete Buttigieg, who is associating his chosen sexual preference to being Black in America.

Yes, Mayor Pete is trying to leverage his identity politics in order to get a participation trophy. Also, former Mayor of San Antonio, Julian Castro, is started to whine and throw a tantrum because he is not getting a participation trophy, based solely upon his own identity politics of being Hispanic.

It is time we all start to examine individuals not by the color of their skin, or any chosen behavioral characteristic, but by their character. A great man once said such, and I am honored to have been born and raised in the same neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia that produced such a fine American. It is time we start handing out participation trophies to those masquerading as leaders. Let us stop embracing the “soft bigotry of low expectations” and blaming individual failures on trite labels which are losing their meaning.

The only identity that is necessary in our politics is American. And the greatest trophy we can earn, and pass onto our subsequent generations is the essence of liberty, freedom, and individual rights that makes an American.
