Fox News reporter Bill Melugin reports almost daily from the overwhelmed southwest border, but on Monday, he said he's never seen anything like this:
"The biggest single group we have ever seen during our border coverage crossed illegally into El Paso, Texas,” he said, playing what he called "stunning footage."
Starting on Sunday night, Melugin said, "an enormous migrant caravan of well over 1,000 people crossed illegally into El Paso, one of the biggest mass crossings in the city's history.
"You can see from this video, wave after wave after wave of hundreds of these migrants just walking across the river and then gathering on the U.S. side of the river. They form a single file line...which at some points goes as far as the eye can see."
In El Paso, more than 5,000 illegal border-crossers are waiting to be processed, Melugin reported, and the overwhelmed Border Patrol has started "mass releasing" migrants onto city streets.
And it’s not just El Paso.
Melugin said CBP sources have told Fox News that in the last 24 hours, Border Patrol agents have counted 2,400 illegal crossings, including groups of five hundred, six hundred, and seven hundred in Eagle Pass, Texas.
In Eagle Pass, Melugin showed video off migrants waiting outside a processing tent -- a tent with a capacity of one thousand that is now overflowing.
Melugin also play video of Mexican police escorting around 20 buses of migrants to the Mexican town across from El Paso to speed their journey to the USA.
And this is while Title 42 is still in effect. The public health measure that allows agents to immediately return some migrants will be lifted on Wednesday, December 21, prompting what by all accounts will be an unprecedented surge of illegal border-crossers.
