A new USA Today/Suffolk University Poll shows that 50% of Americans agree with President Donald Trump that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged collusion between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign is a "witch hunt," the newspaper reported on March 18.
The survey also found that 50% of Americans believe Trump "has been subjected to more investigations that previous presidents because of politics," the newspaper said.
Forty-seven percent disagreed with the idea that the investigation is a "witch hunt," and 3% had no opinion.
"The president's success in persuading half of the electorate that he’s been subjected to unprecedented scrutiny is notable, says David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk Political Research Center," as reported in USA Today.
"Even among people who said they had ‘some’ trust in the Mueller investigation, half agreed with President Trump's witch hunt allegation,” said Paleologos.
One of the persons polled, 62-year-old Robert Lynch of New York, a Republican, told USA Today that, "Trump, he gets badgered every single day." Lynch also said he believes the Mueller report is "going to say no collusion, absolutely none."
For the survey, 1,000 registered voters were interviewed by telephone March 13-17. The margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points.
