In contrast to FBI Director James Comey's recent comment that some police officers are reluctant to confront violent criminals because their actions might be caught on a viral video, Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. said the real problem is a Department of Justice "led by a straight-up cop hater Barack Obama" and a "race-obsessed Attorney General" and her "henchmen" in the DOJ's Civil Rights Division, who need "to get their boot off the neck of American police officers."
“We used to have to only worry about the criminal element," said Sheriff Clarke in his May 21 podcast aired on The Blaze Radio Network. "We could always keep them in front of us. Here’s what’s happening with cops, and this is where [FBI] Director Comey misses the mark a little bit, just a little bit."
"Cops are not afraid to do their job," said Sheriff Clarke. "What cops are apprehensive about is this ongoing witch hunt by this cop-hating United States Department of Justice led by a straight-up cop hater Barack Obama, a race-obsessed Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and her predecessor Eric Holder, and their henchmen in the Civil Rights Division, who lay in wait like some alligator in a swamp just looking for some law enforcement officer to snag for some minor transgression, or something that goes tragically wrong like in Ferguson, Missouri."

Officer “Darren Wilson didn’t do anything wrong," said Clarke. "He still lost his job. Lost his career. His life was turned upside down for doing his job. It was the political class that lynched Darren Wilson. It wasn’t the job."
"So my suggestion to Director Comey, if you really want to help – and I know he does, I like the guy – but if he really wants to help, he should just look down the hallway at the United States Department of Justice, the FBI comes under that umbrella, they’re in different buildings in Washington, D.C.," said the sheriff.
FBI Director Comey “should go see Attorney General Lynch and say, 'look, get your jack-booted goons from the Civil Rights Division to get their boot off the neck of the American police officers and they can go back to work,'" said Sheriff Clarke.
"We used to be seen as allies of the Department of Justice, in pursuit of justice and the element of crime," said Clarke. "But now this Barack Obama-led U.S. DOJ sees the cops as the bad guys, and the crooks and the criminals are now victims. That’s how upside down this is. Cops are not afraid to do their job. They're afraid of the cop-hating United States Department of Justice.”
David A. Clarke Jr., a Democrat, was elected to a 4-year term as the sheriff of Milwaukee County in 2002, and was re-elected in 2006, 2010 and 2014. In those elections he won, respectively, with 74%, 78%, 74%, and 79% of the vote.
