Franklin Graham Slams Jim Carrey For Advocating 'Yes to Socialism'

Rev. Franklin Graham.

After the actor/comedian Jim Carrey, who has an estimated net worth of $150 million, encouraged Americans to "say yes to socialism," Christian leader Franklin Graham criticized the remarks and explained that socialism is the "philosophy of failure," that it has led to the persecution of millions of people, the destruction of religious freedom, and economic catastrophe.  Reverend Graham also encouraged Americans to "reject every politician and party" that espouses socialism.

During a discussion about the two major political parties on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher show, Sept. 7, Jim Carrey said, “We have to say yes to socialism — to the word and everything. We have to stop apologizing.”

Rev. Graham commented on those remarks in a Sep. 13 post on Facebook.  "Jim Carrey is urging Democrats to 'say yes to socialism' and stop apologizing," he wrote.

"It was a very revealing interview with Bill Maher who shared that Democrats were 'sort of' rediscovering who they are," said Graham.  "It sounds to me like they should rediscover who they WERE."

He continued, "Winston Churchill wisely said, 'Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.' He also said, 'The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.' Under socialism in Eastern Europe, churches were burned and pastors were imprisoned. In Russia, every Orthodox priest was killed."

"Just 90 miles from our shores, the people of Cuba have lived in misery for years," said Rev. Graham.  "The Castros killed hundreds of priests and pastors and imprisoned others. Venezuela today is experiencing a historic human migration as millions are fleeing socialism and the poverty that it brings."

"Pray that the American people will see the truth of socialism and reject every politician and party which embraces it," said the reverend.

In the Soviet Union -- the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics -- an estimated 35 million people were killed in the name of socialism. In the People's Republic of China, 65 million people were slaughtered. In Eastern Europe, thousands were killed and millions were shipped off to the Soviet gulags. In Cuba, 73,000 were killed. Today, Venezuela is an economic disaster and food shortages are so bad that people have resorted to eating their pets and zoo animals to survive.
