Christian leader Franklin Graham praised the Trump administration's plan to legally define a person's sex as either male or female, based on biology and objective science and not on personal choice, stating that LGBT activists would oppose the measure but "anatomy" is real and God "created them male and female."
On Oct. 21, the New York Times reported that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking to roll back the gender-fluid policy of the Obama administration and approve a legal definition of sex under Title IX. A person's sex would be determined “on a biological basis that is clear, grounded in science, objective and administrable," and demonstrable by one's genitalia at birth.
"The sex listed on a person’s birth certificate, as originally issued, shall constitute definitive proof of a person’s sex unless rebutted by reliable genetic evidence," states the HHS memorandum on the topic. The Times and other liberal critics complained that the science-based definition would undermine the rights of people who claim to be transgender.
Commenting on the proposal in an Oct. 23 Facebook post, Rev. Graham said, "How did gender—something that is determined by chromosomes and anatomy—ever become flexible, fluid, or according to personal preference?"

"Some have attempted to throw science and fact out the window saying a person can be a man or boy one day and decide to be a woman or girl the next," said Graham. "This has come at great expense—and confusion—across our country. We have watched as it impacted insurance coverage, school locker rooms, public restrooms, athletics, and much more."
"Biology and anatomy are not irrelevant," he said. "God 'created them male and female'—that’s His design."
"It’s really refreshing to read that under the Trump Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services is considering adopting a definition of gender that is grounded in science and fact and is 'objective and administrable,'" said Graham. "Finally!"
"I’m sure this initiative will be strongly opposed by the LGBT agenda, but it’s the right thing to do," he said. "When it comes to male and female, biblical truth, science, and reality all align beautifully. Mankind can try to deny it, but that doesn’t change the truth."
