(WARNING: The video in this story is graphic.)

As an example of Islamic State justice, three alleged thieves in Nineveh, Iraq had their right hands chopped off with meat cleavers because they stole some flour, “some chickens,” a lamb, and “two motorcycle engines,” as explained in a video posted online by the Islamic State.

The horrific video was copied and translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), a non-profit group based in Washington, D.C. that translates a variety of Arabic, Farsi,  and Turkish media into English and other languages to help “inform debate over U.S. policy in the Middle East.”

All three of the alleged thieves were punished by the radical Islamic State that controls Nineveh Province – the same radical Islamist army that has posted videos of the beheading of Coptic Christians in Libya and the immolation of a Jordanian pilot, among other barbaric practices.

In the video, the first alleged thief reveals what he stole and then praises Allah for his pending punishment. The two other thieves do the same.

“I stole two motorcycle engines, a 10-ampere electricity generator, a gas cylinder, a lamb, and some chickens,” states the first thief pictured in the video.

When asked by an Islamic State narrator, “What is your message to thieves?” the thief says, “My message is: May Allah guide all those who follow this crooked path. May Allah mend the ways of every believer who strays down this crooked path.”

Asked if he is pleased with his prescribed punishment, the first thief says, “Allah be praised, I am happy to have my hand chopped off because I am guilty. I am pleased through and through. Allah be praised, I am so happy.”

“It’s like a holiday for me,” says the accused man. “I returned in repentance to Allah and to the Islamic State, so I will never repeat what I did.”

Two other alleged thieves are then presented and in the video one of them says, “My brother and I stole 37 sacks of flour from a bakery. Our hands will be chopped off as a punishment for what we did. This is the law of Allah and we are pleased with it. Peace be upon our Prophet Muhammed and his family.”

The video then switches to a street scene where a table has been set up where the alleged thieves will be held while their right hands are severed.

Representatives of the Islamic State, using a loudspeaker, proclaim, “Allah said, ‘As for the thief, the male and the female, chop off their hands, in recompense for what they committed, as a deterrent punishment from Allah. And Allah is mighty and wise.”

“The Islamic court of Nineveh Province has become convinced that the following people [the three alleged thieves, not named by MEMRI in translation] committed theft from a safeguarded place,” say the Islamic State speakers. “The amount they stole merits the chopping off of their hands. They have confessed to the crime.”

“Therefore, the Islamic court of the Nineveh Province has decided to chop off their right hand, in keeping with Allah’s punishment for what they did,” declare the Islamic State speakers.

The video then shows the first alleged thief after his right hand has been chopped off and his wrist is being wrapped in bandage. The man yells to the crowd,  “The Islamic State is here to stay!  The Islamic State is here to stay! Allah Akbar!  Allah Akbar!  Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar! Allah be praised!”

“This is the law of Allah and we are pleased with it,” he continues to proclaim.  “This is the punishment for every thief. The Islamic State is here to stay! The Islamic State is here to stay! Allah Akbar!  Allah Akbar!”

The “third thief,” wearing a blue sport shirt is shown sitting at the table in the video. He is then held face down at his neck and arm by one man as another man, using a rope tied to the thief’s wrist holds his arm straight, and then a third man dressed in black and wearing a hood uses two metal cleavers to sever the thief’s right hand.

The video stops right before the hand is chopped off and the next image shows the man’s right wrist being bandaged by Islamic State members.

The Islamic State, in the translation, says, “The hand is being treated medically so that the arm will not be harmed.”
