Ayesha Curry, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry’s wife, caused a firestorm on Twitter over the weekend when Ayesha Curry commented on the “latest fashion trends” for women.

“Everyone’s into barely wearing clothes these days huh?” asked Ayesha Curry on Saturday. “Not my style. I like to keep the good stuff covered up for the one who matters.”

A flurry of support and angst from Ayesha Curry’s fan base followed this Saturday evening tweet, which carried with it 57,000-plus retweets and 75,000-plus likes (or hearts).

As seen on Yahoo! Style, many tweeters praised Curry’s statement: “‘Women these days don’t respect themselves, carry themselves like sluts & think its cute,’ one person tweeted. ‘Thank you for wearing clothes and being happily married with kids. goals.’ another quipped.”

Others were not so supportive. “‘Ok lmao what is your point people can dress how they want, your opinion is irrelevant,’ one tweeter said. ‘But who says showing a little skin isn’t classy?’ remarked another,” notes Yahoo! Style.

But Curry was not quite finished.

“Just looking at the latest fashion trends,” Curry continued. “I’ll take classy over trendy any day of the week. #saturdaynightinsight.”

Ayesha Curry further elaborated on her comments on Sunday: “… and all I’m doing is sitting here reading a style weekly. You guys definitely entertain me that’s for sure,” said Curry, inserting a crying emoji at the beginning and a couple of cool emojis wearing sunglasses at the end of the first sentence. “Regardless of if you like my ‘style of clothes’ or not (which I don’t care) please do not tear women down and degrade them… Not cool peeps[.]”
