While at the 2017 Values Voter Summit on Friday, actress, radio talk show host and writer Sam Sorbo, wife of famed Hercules actor and “God’s Not Dead” star Kevin Sorbo, commented on the recent National Football League (NFL) anthem protests, saying that those who continue to protest the U.S. National Anthem “are protesting for more disunity.”
“The flag, the National Anthem, our sense of unity is what they’re protesting,” stated Sam Sorbo. “They are protesting for more disunity. That’s what that is.”
Sam Sorbo’s comments came on Friday Oct. 13 at the 2017 Values Voter Summit, just days before NFL players from eight teams continued the protest of the National Anthem in week six of the NFL season and just three days after Roger Goodell issued a Memodrandum on the NFL anthem protests.
Below is a transcript of Sam Sorbo’s remarks:
“But more recently, he [Trump] took on the NFL. And what he did there has been nothing short of astonishing because the NFL is a very powerful organization that is government subsidized, which means it’s taxpayer subsidized.
“And yet, the organization as a whole said, ‘You know what, it’s okay to disrespect the flag. Just go ahead and take a kneel, and we will kneel with you as a protest. We will protest with you.
“The flag, the National Anthem, our sense of unity is what they’re protesting. They are protesting for more disunity. That’s what that is.
“And Donald Trump took them on, which is amazing because what’s he thinking?
“In fact, if you remember when he first brought it up everyone was like, ‘Oh my gosh. What’s he doing now?’
“But he’s absolutely brilliant. This is exactly what we needed. The American people stood up and said, ‘You know what? I agree. How dare you disrespect the flag and the Anthem.’
“And so, because they did that the NFL cowed. They were cowed. And they crept back and they said, Roger Goodell just yesterday or the day before [Oct. 10, 2017] said, ‘You know what? I’m going to issue a directive that everybody needs to stand for the Anthem.’
“So now the American public know[s] that their voice not only counts but it affects change. And this is a wonderful thing because we need some change in this country. We need to get back to our Founding Fathers morals and values and virtue.
“That is really what made this country great.”
