Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee blasted those who are “outraged” about President Donald Trump signing a Bible in a couple of tweets on his Twitter page Sunday, saying, “most” of these people “don’t read one or believe in it so why do they care” other than it’s President Trump who did it.

“Most of the ppl outraged about @realDonaldTrump ‘SIGNING A BIBLE!’ don’t read one or believe in it so why do they care other than it’s @POTUS who did it,” wrote Gov. Mike Huckabee in a tweet. “I’ve been asked to sign thousands of Bibles over the yrs-because person asked. I never claimed to be the author! Get a grip!”

Mike Huckabee’s comments came after the Associated Press (“AP”) and other media outlets reported on President Donald Trump’s visit to Alabama following a deadly tornado outbreak in the state, the AP story on the Fox News Channel asking in its headline, “Was It OK for Trump to sign Bibles in Alabama visit?” Comedian John Oliver of Last Week Tonight mocked “dangerously idiotic” Trump for signing Bibles and suggested “seeing Trump’s autograph on a Bible should be like seeing a picture of your own Mom on the cover of a Penthouse magazine: it should render the whole thing useless, and if you keep reading after discovering it, you’re going directly to hell.”

Gov. Huckabee went on in a subsequent tweet, defending the president: “As Governor, I walked through tornado sites w/ Pres Bill Clinton[,] and he graciously posed for photos, signed Bibles and other things as ppl asked him to. No FAKE NEWS stories about it. @realDonaldTrump does it[,] and media freaks out. Get a life, media-and a real job just reporting.”
