On his nationally syndicated radio talk show “The Mark Levin Show” Thursday, host Mark Levin warned that Americans “need to engage” in debate on policies proposed by Democrats or “we’re going to lose this country.”
“The Democrat Party has gone so hard left that even liberals, in some cases, find it unrecognizable,” stated Mark Levin. “Free universal basic income. I forgot to mention the Green New Deal. Free health care; free college; family leave; reparations; 70-90 percent marginal tax rate; a value added tax on products and services; a wealth tax on that which you’ve already earned and created every year, they’ll take from it. We need to engage in this debate. We need to engage in this debate. We need to take them on, or we’re going to lose this country.”
Mark Levin’s remarks stem from a piece in The New York Times by Astead W. Herndon headlined, “2020 Democrats Embrace Race-Conscious Policies, Including Reparations” that describes policies put forward by several Democratic presidential candidates. According to the piece, “in recent weeks, some candidates have started embracing specific goals and overtly race-conscious legislation that even the most left-wing elected officials stayed away from in recent years” – namely, reparations for black Americans.
Below is a transcript of Mark Levin’s comments from his show on Thursday:
“So, free health care – trillions; free college – trillions; universal basic income – trillions; family leave – hundreds of billions. And while you’re choking the golden goose so it can’t lay golden eggs, choke it some more, a 70-90 percent marginal tax rate; a value-added tax, like they have in Europe; a wealth tax, where you actually confiscate somebody’s property; and now reparations.
“Is this America? Does this sound like America to you? Does this sound like you’ll improve society this way?
“‘The morally driven policy goals …’—this is The New York Times—‘… of Ms. Harris and Ms. Warren reflect a broader shift in the importance of race and identity issues in the Democratic Party, according to several scholars and political leaders who focus on the intersection of race and politics. While Democrats have long cast themselves as more inclusive than the Republican Party, grass-roots organizers and many liberal voters of all races are now pushing elected officials to go further on policies of racial equality, regardless of any political calculations.’
“This is not about racial equality. This is about a massive takeover of the private sector, of the individual, of our institutions. Whether you call it climate change, whether you call it reparations, whatever you call it, it is an unprecedented effort, an ideology here, which seeks to do what? Take control of your life, and seeks to choose winners and losers, whether it’s based on history, whether it’s based on income, whether it’s based on race, whatever it’s based on – gender. It is destroying the very notion of what Americanism is all about: respecting the individual regardless of color, regardless of anything – respect for the individual.
“The Democrat Party has gone so hard left that even liberals, in some cases, find it unrecognizable. Free universal basic income. I forgot to mention the Green New Deal.
