In response to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet on Georgia’s “fetal heartbeat bill,” Live Action Founder and President Lila Rose challenged the congresswoman in a tweet of her own, saying, “a lot of women support these life-saving laws” and suggested that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez “join us.”

“I don’t think you understand how these bills work,” Live Action Founder and President Lila Rose wrote on her Twitter page. “They ban abortion after the baby’s heartbeat can be heard by ultrasound, which is around 6 wks. Also, a lot of women support these life-saving laws, myself included. You should join us. Glad some of ‘the men’ are on board, too.”

Lila Rose’s response came after Rep. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted early Wednesday morning that “[m]ost of the men writing these [fetal heartbeat] bills don’t know the first thing about a woman’s body outside of the things they want from it.”

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez further suggested in her tweet that “fetal heartbeat” bills, like the one signed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, are “a backdoor ban” on abortions. According to Fox News, the Georgia bill, HB 481, also known as the “Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act,” would “prohibit abortions in the state after a heartbeat is detected, as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.”

Lila Rose, in the thread beneath her initial response to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, further stated in another tweet, “.@BabyCenter explains a baby’s amazing development at 6 weeks: ‘The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape...His heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute...and blood is beginning to course through his body.’”
