On his nationally syndicated radio talk show Monday, host Mark Levin suggested that the time has come for a special counsel to investigate the FBI, saying that the reported gap in 50,000 exchanged text messages is “worse than the 18-minute gap that they used to mock Richard Nixon about” and that the text messages that we do have are “damning.”

“50,000 text messages missing – a critical gap, a critical gap,” stated Mark Levin. “This is worse than the 18-minute gap that they used to mock Richard Nixon about, and his secretary Rosemary whatever her name was. Oh, yes, yes, yes. I remember when this stuff used to matter. And the text messages that we do have are damning of the senior levels of the FBI, are damning of FBI interference in the last election at the highest levels, are damning of the intelligence agencies and the NSA.”

Levin’s comments came after Attorney General Jeff Sessions revealed Monday that “[m]ore than 50,000 texts were exchanged between two FBI officials who have come under fire for exchanging anti-Trump messages during the 2016 election,” reported Fox News. “The figure surfaced as lawmakers have been pressing for answers after revelations that the FBI ‘failed to preserve’ five months of texts between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.”

Below are Levin’s remarks from his show Monday:

“You know, I’m not buying this crap, not for a minute.

“Isn’t this interesting? May 17, up to and perhaps through May 17. That is the date, May 17, 2018 – excuse me, May 17, 2017 – that Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel, ladies and gentlemen.

“The time has now come, in fact, it’s long overdue, for a special counsel to investigate the senior levels of the FBI, for a special counsel to investigate the conduct of former FBI Director James Comey, the conduct of Deputy FBI Director McCabe, the conduct of FBI Chief of Staff Ratcliffe, the conduct of FBI investigator, Chief counterintelligence investigator Strzok and his girlfriend Page, and wherever else it might lead, including to potentially Robert Mueller and his staff.

“A special counsel needs to be appointed who has no past connections with Washington D.C., no connections with the FBI leadership, no connections with Mr. Mueller and his cabal, no connections with the United States Congress at all. Such men and women do exist, ladies and gentlemen, and that’s what’s exactly needed at this moment.

“50,000 text messages missing – a critical gap, a critical gap. This is worse than the 18-minute gap that they used to mock Richard Nixon about, and his secretary Rosemary whatever her name was. Oh, yes, yes, yes. I remember when this stuff used to matter. And the text messages that we do have are damning of the senior levels of the FBI, are damning of FBI interference in the last election at the highest levels, are damning of the intelligence agencies and the NSA.

“That’s correct.”
