Prominent conservative actor Kevin Sorbo, known for his family-friendly, Christian films “Let There Be Light” and “God’s Not Dead” lauded Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in a recent social media post for taking on teachers unions and public education, Sorbo saying, “Individuals made America great…not government.”
“Good for DeVos!!” said Kevin Sorbo of the U.S. Secretary of Education in a Facebook post. “She is making the Teachers union made because she is telling the truth. Our school system gets worse and worse. America ranks 27th in the world in education….we should be ashamed. Homeschooling, private schools and charter schools are growing for the obvious lack of proper education our government feeds us. Individuals made America great…not government.”
Kevin Sorbo’s comments came in response to a piece in The Hill on Secretary of Education DeVos’s recent remarks concerning the teachers union and its “stranglehold” on politicians in America.
“The teachers union has a stranglehold on many of the politicians in this country, both at the federal level and at the state-level, and they are very resistant to the kind of changes that need to happen,” stated DeVos during an interview on Fox Business. “They are very protective of what they know, and they’re protective of, really protective of adult jobs and not really focused on what’s right for individual students.”
When asked if anything has changed on that, Education Secretary DeVos continued: “Well, in some states we’ve made significant progress, but there is a lot more progress to be made. And at the federal level, I think there needs to be honest conversations in the policy-making rooms around what is right long-term for the health of our students, of our children, which is the future of our country.”
Sorbo also quoted Ronald Reagan in the Facebook post before concluding with a link to The Hill piece and three hashtags:
“Ronald Reagan said, ‘The greatest words to fear are: I'm from the government and I am here to help.’
