Former Baltimore Raven and New Orleans Saints Tight End Benjamin Watson took to social media to address recent comments made by Alabama State Rep. John Rogers on killing the unborn, Watson saying in a Facebook post, “Killing innocent life will NEVER be the solution.”

“The solution for unloved children is to LOVE them,” wrote Benjamin Watson in a Facebook post. “The solution for a future of poor education, poverty and incarceration is EDUCATIONAL INVESTMENT, JOBS, and DECARCERATION. Killing innocent life will NEVER be the solution.”

Benjamin Watson’s remarks came in response to Alabama state lawmaker Rep. John Rogers’ (D-Birmingham, AL) comments on abortion. The Democratic state representative said in pertinent part about abortion in a video posted to twitter,  “Some kids are unwanted. So, you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, and you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or kill them later.”

As reported by AL.com, Rep. Rogers later on Thursday “defended the statement, arguing Alabama does not value life despite the House having just passed what some say is one of the strictest abortion laws in America.”

State Rep. Rogers said in-part, as seen in a YouTube video on AL.com:

“We’ve closed 13 rural hospitals in this state – including Cooper Green. We have put hundreds of people in jail, making it hard for you to get food stamps. In other words, if you’re on drug tests, you can’t get food stamps. And then you’ve got at least two people a night dying in our Alabama prisons. It just doesn’t make sense. So why do you want to bring these people in the world and then deny them the right to process and live in Alabama?”
