(WARNING: The video in this story contains graphic, violent images of a woman being executed.)
An al Qaeda affiliate in Syria, Jabhat al-Nusra, executed a woman accused of adultery in the town square of a village of Ma'arrat Misrin, according to video provided by the Clarion Project, a non-profit group dedicated to exposing the dangers of Islamic extremism.
In the graphic video, a man stands next to the executioner, quoting the Quran (Surah 5:33): “Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides.”
The woman begs to see her children one last time, according to the Clarion Project’s translation, but they ignore her request, and the man continues: “It has been proven with clear evidence that this woman, may God forgive her, was one of the people that corrupted the land with adultery, God forbid. This sharia sentence, was approved by the group of the brothers, the noble scholars, after it was proven to them that she corrupted the land through adultery, God forbid.
“We ask the Lord, may His name be praised, that this punishment should be an atonement for her crime in this world and that it should purify her so she is able to meet God in a way that He is satisfied with her and that He will forgive her and make all the Muslims keep their honor, because the honor of the Muslims is very precious to us. We swear in the name of Allah that it hurts us very much when the honor of one Muslim woman is violated.”
