Governor Steve Beshear (D-Ky.) told the audience at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) 2015 Winter Meeting this weekend that if Abraham Lincoln were alive today “he would be re-registering - a Democrat.”

“You know we have always been the party of the people, by the people and for the people,” Beshear said paraphrasing a section of Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address.

“And I purposely use the words of the very first Republican President of the United States, a great Kentuckian Abraham Lincoln, because if he were here with us today he would be so disappointed in what his party has become that he would be re-registering - a Democrat.”

The audience responded with applause.

Beshear addressed the 2015 Winter Meeting of the DNC on Saturday.
