When it comes to “growing the economy” and “keeping America safe,” likely voters have more confidence in President Donald Trump than in Democrat leaders, a new nationwide Zogby poll shows.

Trust to grow the U.S. economy:

  • Trump: 41%
  • Dem Leaders: 35%
  • Unsure: 25%

Trust to keep America safe:

  • Trump: 40%
  • Dem Leaders: 38%
  • Unsure: 22%

Certain “key groups” - Independents, women and Millennials - all have more trust in Trump than in Democrats regarding the U.S. economy, and Independents favor him to keep the nation safe, Zogby notes in its announcement of the results:

“What's important here is the numbers among the key groups (Millennials, women and independents) who will be a factor in the 2018 mid-term elections. When it comes to the economy, independents favor Trump (32%-22%) rather than democratic leaders and Trump ties democratic leaders with women (both 34%) and Millennials (both 36%).

“When it comes to "keeping America safe", independents (32% to 29%) favor Trump, and he keeps things close with Millennials aged 18-24 (44% to 32% in favor of democratic leaders) and women (41% to 34% in favor democratic leaders).”

Thus, Zogby concludes, it “could prove to be wise at the moment” for Trump’s fellow Republicans to align themselves with the president.
