Speaking English, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters unequivocally that he has never met, nor has he ever spoken on the phone with, President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani.

Zelensky was addressing reporters in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, on Tuesday when he debunked a cornerstone of U.S. Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into Pres. Trump’s dealings with his country:

“I’ve never met Rudy Giuliani. Never. And never had any phone calls with him.”

“I want to tell you that I never feel any pressure and there are very many people in the west and in Ukraine who would like to influence me,” Zelensky said – affirming that the White House transcript of his phone conversation with Trump is accurate - Bloomberg News reports.

“It is impossible to influence me,” Pres. Zelensky said.

Pres. Zelensky has said as much, on camera speaking Ukrainian to Russian reporters, reported on September 27:

On his arrival in New York earlier this week, Zelensky was asked by Russian reporters whether he had come under “pressure” from the American president.

“No one is able to put pressure on me, since I am the president of an independent country,” Zelensky replied.
