President Donald Trump expressed hope that the outrage prompted by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam comments promoting post-birth abortion will bring the issue of abortion to the attention of Americans who have previously ignored it.

On Wednesday, Gov. Northam said that, under a bill he supports, a baby born alive could be “kept comfortable” and then “resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired” – the implication being that the baby could be left to die if the family decided they did not want to keep their child.

“This is going to lift up the whole pro-life movement like maybe it’s never been lifted up before,” Pres. Trump told The Daily Caller, adding:

“I think this will very much lift up the issue because people have never thought of it in those terms.”

Trump made the comments in an exclusive Oval Office interview with The Daily Caller, in which he discussed statements made by both Northam and fellow Democrat, State Delegate Kathy Tran, promoting Virginia’s controversial late-term abortion bill.

On Thursday, Trump warned that the Democrat Party is now openly embracing late-term abortion:

“Democrats are becoming the Party of late term abortion, high taxes, Open Borders and Crime!”
