When jockey Mike Smith won the Triple Crown Saturday by riding to victory in the Belmont Stakes, he credited Jesus Christ when given the chance to revel in his own personal success.

After sealing his Triple Crown win on the back on his horse, “Justify,” Smith was asked, “How long have you been dreaming about a moment like this?”

But, before answering, Smith praised Jesus:

“First, and foremost, I thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for this blessing on this wonderful day. We’re also blessed we made it back safe.”

Smith also gave thanks for Justify, saying the horse is heaven-sent:

“This horse ran a wonderful race. He’s so gifted. He’s sent for heaven.”

Smith, then, dedicated his win to those jockeys did not make it back safe, offering prayers for one, in particular – before reiterating that his success is a blessing from God:

“I’d like to say one thing in the midst of all this: all the disabled riders, I dedicate this to you.”

“I’ve been so blessed.”
