“This is the leftist mind,” Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said, mocking Democrat California Gov. Newsom’s claim that “doctors should be able to write prescriptions for housing.”

On Friday, Gov. Newsom tweeted his proposal to treat homelessness as a health care issue:

“Doctors should be able to write prescriptions for housing the same way they do for insulin or antibiotics.”

“We need to start targeting social determinants of health. We need to start treating brain health like we do physical health.

“What’s more fundamental to a person’s well being than a roof over their head?”

Liberals think they can simply make houses “magically appear” by writing on a slip of paper - but, they also prevent contractors from building the houses they plan to give to unemployed people who can’t afford to maintain them, Sen. Cruz replied.

What’s more, since “Homeless people are crapping on the doorstep,” perhaps, Gov. Newsom should address that issue first, Cruz responded:

“This is the Leftist mind: write a slip of paper & a house will magically appear. Never mind that the person doesn’t have a job, the contractor can’t get a CA permit to build the house, rent control has caused a housing shortage & homeless people are crapping on the doorstep.”

Cruz also mocked Newsom’s complaint that a quarter of California’s population suffers from a mental health condition. Instead of devoting resources to “giving them needles” and allowing them to get away with theft and vandalism, the governor should focus on creating more drug treatment programs, Cruz replied:

Gov. Newsom: “10 million Californians—1 in 4—suffer from some type of behavioral health condition. It’s not a narrow issue. It’s not a new issue. Physical health and brain health are inextricably linked. And our healthcare system has been designed to treat only one of those.”

Sen. Cruz: “Maybe stop giving them needles that they leave en masse in public parks? And refusing to prosecute them when they engage in theft or vandalism? How ‘bout drug treatment programs instead?”
