“While gas prices are at record highs, woke politics is top of mind for the Biden admin,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) observed Tuesday, responding to a declaration by Energy Department Secretary Jennifer Granholm.

On Tuesday, Cruz retweeted a post by Granholm, in which she rates “environmental justice” as the top priority for the Biden Administration:

“Environmental justice is top of mind for @POTUS and his administration. We're working around the clock to build a cleaner, brighter future for Americans in every pocket of the country. Stay tuned this week to see how @ENERGY’s contributing to #Justice40

Granholm's tweet links to a page about “Environmental Justice” on the White House website, which invokes the specter of climate change:

“For far too long, communities across our country have faced environmental injustices, bearing the brunt of toxic pollution, enduring underinvestment in infrastructure and critical services, and suffering disproportionate impacts from climate change.”

On a separate page, the White House explains that its Justice40 initiative directs 40% of the administration’s green energy investments to “disadvantaged communities”:

“As part of this historic commitment to environmental justice, President Biden created the Justice40 Initiative to ensure that federal agencies deliver 40 percent of the overall benefits of climate, clean energy, affordable and sustainable housing, clean water, and other investments to disadvantaged communities.”

Meanwhile, the cost of a gallon of regular gasoline hit a record high of $4.598 per gallon on Tuesday, according to AAA.
