“Come on,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) exclaimed Friday in response to news that Chick-fil-A has been banned from opening a location in San Antonio International Airport because it contributed to charities with Christian values.

In a tweet, Sen. Cruz reacted to a U.S. News article reporting that the San Antonio City Council revoked the fast food franchise’s new planned location because of its pro-family charitable contributions:

“The citizens of beautiful San Antonio deserve more delicious sandwiches, and fewer rabid attacks against companies because of their charitable giving to the community. Come on.”

U.S. News reported Friday that a city councilman pushed an amendment to the concession contract because of what he deemed Chick-fil-A’s “legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior”:

“Chick-fil-A has been banned from opening a store in San Antonio International Airport because of its ‘legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior.’”

“City Councilman Roberto Trevino made a motion regarding the deal, amending it so that it did not include a planned Chick-fil-A eatery. Trevino's amendment was approved 6-4 by the council.”

“’We do not have room in our public facilities for a business with a legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior,’ Trevino said.”

As examples of Chick-fil-A’s “legacy of anti-LGBT behavior,” U.S. News cites three examples of the Chick-fil-A Foundation's 2017 charitable contributions:

  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes: $1.6 million,
  • Paul Anderson Youth Home: $6,000,
  • Salvation Army: $150,000
