Ongoing coronavirus restrictions are denying Americans their fundamental rights, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said Saturday, addressing the crowd at former Pres. Donald Trump’s Ohio rally.
For example, Rep. Jordan said, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) continued lockdown of the House, which prevents citizens from entering, is impinging on “Your right to petition your government”:
“Tonight, as we sit here and talk, you can’t go to your Capitol to petition your member of Congress to redress your grievances – because Nancy Pelosi won’t let you in.”
Rep. Jordan also recalled how members of New Mexico’s Republican Party were denied their right to assemble in their own state, due to restrictions:
“I gave a speech six weeks ago to the New Mexico Republican Party – in Amarillo, Texas – because they had to go to Texas to get freedom to assemble. In their own state, they weren’t allowed to meet.”
“That should never happen in this great country,” Rep. Jordan said. "Lock her up!" the crowd chanted in response.
"The attacks on speech are the scariest of them all," Jordan said, noting how YouTube had pulled video of a doctor from Stanford who disagreed with the liberal narrative on coronavirus.
Freedom of speech "is the most important right we enjoy as Americans," Jordan said. "Can you really practice your faith, do you really have freedom of religion if you can't speak? Can you really assembly and petition your government if you can't speak?"
