Rep. Gaetz: Jordan, Meadows, Zeldin Should Join Intel Committee to Question Impeachment Witnesses

“We’ve got to match the Democrats’ moves with some strategy of our own,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said Tuesday, calling for replacing GOP intelligence experts on the House Intelligence Committee with others who have expertise in questioning impeachment inquiry witnesses.

The House Intelligence Committee, which is comprised of intelligence experts, has been “totally bastardized” by Intel Chair Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) – and has been transformed into “the Impeachment Committee,” Gaetz said in an interview with Fox Business’ Trish Regan.

Since it’s now the “Impeachment Committee,” Gaetz said, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) should fill it with members who have witnessed the secret impeachment testimony and are expert interrogators - such as Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.):

“The Intel Committee has been totally bastardized by Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi. They are supposed to be doing important work to analyze intelligence – and, instead, it’s become the impeachment committee.

“So, I think that Leader McCarthy is right to look to potentially retool the committee from the Republican side where we insert some of our better questioners and some of the folks who have steeped themselves in these fact patterns.

“To me, that would include Jim Jordan, Mark Meadows and Lee Zeldin: three people who have attended almost all of the interviews behind closed doors and who, I think, would be very effective on the Intelligence Committee.

“We’ve got great members on the Intelligence Committee now – but, they are experts and specialists in analyzing intelligence, not necessarily in defending against impeachment.

“And, that’s why we’ve got to match the Democrats’ moves with some strategy of our own.”

Rep. Jordan currently serves on the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees. Rep. Meadows serves on the House Oversight Committee. Rep. Zeldin serves on the House Financial Services and Foreign Affairs Committees.
