House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) criticized President Donald Trump’s support for merit-based immigration policy Wednesday by questioning the “merit” of the immigration of First Lady Melania Trump’s parents.
Speaking to the Commonwealth Club of California, Pelosi also claimed that, when President Trump uses the word “merit,” it’s actually code for “Make America white again”:
"When the president says, 'Merit,' turn it upside down - that means, 'Make America white again.' Export, have people leave, just go back, and we’ll just let in who we like.
"I don’t know if merit counted for when his wife’s family came into the country.
"I don’t know. Maybe, it did. God bless him, if it did. But, he calls that chain migration, which he wants to get rid of, family unification. Instead, call it merit."
