Up to two thousand anti-Trump activists are expected to join forces at a local Teamsters Union hall, then march off to protest the president’s speech at a Springfield, MO company on Wednesday. But, another group of Missourians is organizing to help keep the peace. Both events are being organized on Facebook.
The anti-Trump rally, dubbed “The People’s Protest,” is being organized by eight member organizations:
- Indivisible STL Resist
- Missouri 2nd District for Change
- Indivisible St. Louis
- Springfield Indivisible
- The Emerging Church
- MOmentum: Missouri Moving Forward
- NARAL Pro Choice Missouri
The “People’s Protest” activists plan to meet at Teamster's Union Local No. 245 in Springfield, MO, then begin their protest President Donald Trump’s scheduled speech at Loren Cook Company, a local manufacturer of ventilation equipment.
Meanwhile, a group calling itself Patriots Protecting Trump is recruiting Missourians to ensure the event is not disrupted by violent factions of the ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter (BLM) movements:
“The purpose of this group, is to provide protection to people who wish to enjoy the opportunity to see President Trump speak live in Springfield, Mo, and to keep groups such as ANTIFA, and BLM, far enough away that it does not ruin or disrupt the rally. Hopefully, things will go very peacefully. But if not, we need to be prepared and organized.”
The Patriots Protecting Trump event is being organized by a local businessman who describes himself as “a father, a fiance, and a Constitutional Conservative,” as well as “an Unapologetic American.”
“We are going to be there to ensure that the average citizen has the ability to enjoy supporting their president, without fear of reprisal from protest groups," he says.
The event’s Facebook page says the anti-Trump activists have every right to protest – peacefully:
“We are not there to prevent the protesters, from protesting. They have their right to their First Amendment freedom of speech, just as we do. They will not however, become physical, or damage property, because they have given themselves the right to.”
The organizer tells CNSNews.com that he began organizing on Saturday and has beens "averaging approving 25 to 30 members, every 45 minutes" since then.
Both groups declare that only peaceful protesters are welcome to participate in their respective rallies.
