Former governor and U.S Ambassador Nikki Haley is asking her younger supporters to stay home, even though they have less to fear from the coronavirus.
In a Tuesday tweet, Haley called it their “patriotic duty” to avoid restaurants and bars, because doing so will bring the virus to an end sooner:
“To my younger supporters, I know you are bored and I know this virus doesn’t threaten you like it does the elderly. If you will stay in and avoid restaurants/bars for the next two weeks, this will come to an end sooner. It is your patriotic duty to stay home. We need you.”
In an earlier post, Haley suggested three ways Americans can perform “acts of kindness” to help during the coronavirus outbreak:
- “Contact your local food bank,”
- “Reach out to your hair stylist/barber, nail salon, or any other services and order a gift certificate,”
- “Call the elderly and ask if you can have anything delivered to them.”
On Sunday, which President Donald Trump declared a National Day of Prayer for those afflicted with the coronavirus, Haley shared a comment by her pastor:
“Words from my pastor that is a reminder to all of us: ‘As we practice social distancing, we are reminded our God does not keep His distance.’ #NationalDayOfPrayer”
In another Tuesday tweet, Haley said that the coronavirus highlights how important it is for the U.S. to become less reliant on other countries, like China, for its necessities:
“80% of ingredients used to make American drugs are from overseas. Most of that comes from China. Time for the US to realize the importance of becoming self reliant when it comes to necessities like these.”
