Media Research Center (MRC) President Brent Bozell issued a statement Monday applauding reports that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is opening an antitrust investigation into Google.

On February 21 of this year, the MRC organized a letter from the Free Speech Alliance (FSA) which was signed by 32 conservative leaders to Attorney General William Barr recommending that he open an investigation into Google, Facebook and Twitter. This was the first formal written request made to the new Attorney General to investigate big tech's lack of transparency, censorship, and bias.

Specifically, the letter stated:

"Respecting these entities’ own constitutional rights, we believe there nevertheless is ample probable cause of antitrust violations and of conspiracy to violate the constitutional rights of conservatives, and possible collusion to violate laws governing America’s campaign finance system and elections."

In his statement, Bozell expressed support for the DOJ's probe, adding that it is "crystal clear" that Google and other social media platforms are censoring conservatives:

"I applaud the DOJ for heeding our call. Online giants Google, Facebook and Twitter wield unprecedented power to shape public opinion and even directly influence elections. And it is crystal clear that they are using that power to silence conservatives and advance their own liberal agenda rather than creating a neutral marketplace of ideas. Left unchecked, these tech companies represent the greatest threat to liberty in our lifetimes, and Google's search engine is perhaps the most dangerous of all."
