Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), one of several members of Congress condemning the Netflix child sexploitation film “Cuties,” introduced a bill on Monday to outlaw sex robots and dolls that look like children.
“Child abuse and exploitation is a vile crime. The controversial new Netflix film ‘Cuties’ depicting pre-teenaged girls in sexually explicit dance routines is offensive and exploitative,” Rep. Buchanan tweeted Monday, joining the growing number of congressmembers calling for Netflix to pull the film reported Saturday by CNSNews.com.
“The National Center on Sexual Exploitation agrees, saying the film adds to the problem of child sexual exploitation. We need to be protecting children from predators, not exploiting them,” Rep. Buchanan writes. His CREEPER (Curbing Realistic Exploitative Electronic Pedophilic Robots) Act 2.0 will help thwart pedophiles’ efforts to “normalize” their behavior, the congressman says:
“TODAY I am introducing legislation in Congress to ban lifelike child sex dolls used by pedophiles to ‘normalize’ their predatory behavior. Nothing is more heinous than crimes against children.”
The bill amends the 2017 CREEPER Act.
“I support artistic expression in film but this is exploitative, dangerous and borders on child pornography,” Rep. Buchanan says in a press release announcing the bill. “You can’t say you’re making a movie that explores the topic of sexual exploitation of children by then sexually exploiting children.”
Democratic State Sen. Lauren Book, D-Hollywood, who authored Florida's law banning child sex dolls endorsed Congressman Vern Buchanan's bill. She spoke with Buchanan about the issue and expressed strong support for taking the ban nationwide. Buchanan's bill, the CREEPER Act 2.0, would do just that.
"What happens when the doll is no longer enough?” Book asks. “I support Congressman Buchanan's CREEPER Act 2.0 to expand the ban on the sale and possession of childlike sex dolls throughout all 50 states -- these dolls have no place in our communities."
