As law enforcement officers responded to a murderous shooting spree in West Texas on Saturday, employees at a local Chick-fil-A restaurant sprang into action to feed them.
After hearing the news that a shooter had driven through the cities of Odessa and Midland, Texas, killing seven people and wounding 22 others, Chick-fil-A Odessa, University Blvd. offered employees the opportunity to close shop early so they could go home and be with their loved ones.
But, instead, employees chose to stay and work with a neighboring Chick-fil-A to prepare and provide 500 sandwiches to feed the law enforcement professionals dealing with the tragedy, Chick-fil-A Odessa, University Blvd explains in a Facebook post:
“Absolutely blown away by this amazing team of people. After heartbreaking events in our community today we planned to close early and send our team home to be with their families. As they were walking out of the restaurant an opportunity to feed local law enforcement presented its self and they were given the option to help...not one person said no. Partnering with Chick-fil-A Odessa Town Center they cooked 500 sandwiches and packaged them with the most joyful hearts and a lot of love.”
The store’s post also expresses pride in its employees who volunteered, gratitude to the community’s first responders – and offered prayers for all of those harmed by the tragedy:
“Sometimes light in a dark world looks as simple as a hot chicken sandwich. We just couldn’t be prouder of these helpers and their hearts of gold. Grateful is not an adequate word to express how we feel about all of our brave First Responders, they are true heroes. We are praying for our community in the days ahead and for all of those impacted by this tragedy.”
