Broward County, Fla. School Officers to be Armed with Semi-Automatic Weapons

Students will return to class at the Parkland, Florida school where the recent mass shooting occurred, and school officers will be armed with be armed with semi-automatic weapons to protect them, Broward County’s superintendent announced Friday.

Semi-automatic weapons will be provided to all schools in Broward County, not just those in the city of Parkland, CBS News reports:

“Broward County Superintendent Robert Runcie announces that Marjory Stoneman Douglas will reopen next week, and that school resource officers will be armed with semi-automatic weapons temporarily as a precaution.”

Since the shooting, President Donald Trump has been calling for the arming of certain select, qualified school officials.
