Stephen Colbert, host of “The Late Show Show with Stephen Colbert,” asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) on Friday if she recommended chocolate “as a treatment for anxiety.”

“Very dark, in my case. Very dark chocolate,” Pelosi responded.

“And, again, it’s good for you,” Pelosi continued. “Somebody told me it was good for your teeth. I believed that. I don’t know.

“But in any event, whatever it is everyone has his or her own comfort, and don’t hesitate to enjoy, or rest, and feel that you should be working all the time,” she said.

“I always say to my members that recreate and re-create are the same word,” she said.

“It’s important to recreate, that is relax, so that you are strong and recreated for the fight ahead,’ she said.

Colbert responded to that by saying: “Okay, you’ve heard her America. Pleasure is good right now. The speaker says don’t forget to pleasure yourself. Okay, thank you so much, Madame Speaker.”

“Thank you,” said Pelosi. “Nice to be with you.”

Here is the transcript from the part of Stephen Colbert’s interview with Nancy Pelosi where he asks her about chocolate:

Colbert: “Madame Speaker, I want to let you go. I know you have got a lot to do. But before you go: How are you dealing with the anxiety yourself. You’re known to be a chocolate connoisseur. How hard are you hitting the Ghirardelli bar?"

Pelosi: “That’s it. Well, pretty, See’s, Ghirardelli, Jenny’s chocolate ice cream, whatever it is. You all know, it is a very important part of my life."

Colbert: “Do you recommend chocolate as a treatment for anxiety?”

Pelosi: “Very dark, in my case. Very dark chocolate. And, again, it’s good for you. Somebody told me it was good for your teeth. I believed that. I don’t know. But in any event, whatever it is everyone has his or her own comfort, and don’t hesitate to enjoy, or rest, and feel that you should be working all the time. I always say to my members that recreate and re-create are the same word. It’s important to recreate, that is relax, so that you are strong and recreated for the fight ahead.”

Colbert: “Okay, you’ve heard her America. Pleasure is good right now. The speaker says don’t forget to pleasure yourself. Okay, thank you so much, Madame Speaker.

Pelosi: “Thank you. Nice to be with you.”
